Describe your business?
The Natural Beauty Pot offers a range of skincare and makeup products which are made by hand using natural and organic ingredients. The range includes cleansers, toners, moisturisers and foundations to name a few. Following the ethos of the Buttermarket in promoting local artists and products, I also stock innovative products from a select few Irish artisan brands.
Why did you choose to start your own business?
I have always had extremely sensitive skin, having studied Beauty Therapy I tried many products with poor results, varying from rashes to simply making my skin problems worse. Unable to find a solution in the cosmetic market, I was inspired to take matters into my own hands. After studying cosmetic product development I began making my own natural and organic skincare range, adhering to (tested to the highest standard) cosmetic regulatory legislation.
What is the best thing about running your own business?
I love the creative freedom running your own business allows which can be anything from creating a product to designing the website, no two days are ever the same!
What advice would you give to anyone starting a business?
It is not easy and it will not happen over night, but if you love what you do you will get there. Be creative with your methods and don’t be afraid to ask for help.
What do you think is the main challenges faces new business starts?
I think finance is a huge challenge for new businesses, a lot of money goes into starting up (overheads, graphic design, equipment, trademark, stock, trying various methods of marketing as you don’t know what works yet). I started off part-time so my business could have more financial freedom and not be drained constantly by wages. It has taken a while but I feel I have learnt so much in the process.
Describe your experience in running a business?
It’s like a roller coaster, there are ups and downs and at times I think I am mad but my ups far out way the downs. There is no words to describe how proud I feel when customers come back with great feedback and how much they love the products. I have also be fortunate enough to win some awards and there is great satisfaction having your work recognised locally and nationally!
